PVMHS' First Acoustic Coffee House

The Acoustic Coffee House hosted by chorale is one of Peabody High’s most popular performing arts events. Students gather to perform acoustic versions of songs or even their own original songs to a small audience. The setting takes place on the auditorium’s stage with the lights dimmed down to make it feel like home; hence called “coffee house.”

Trina Dessalines, whose premier performance took pl ace at this year’s first coffee house in October, enjoys “the comfort, the feel, it gives.” “The spectators are very mature and never judge anyone who goes up on that stage,” she claims. “It’s more about enjoying other's talents rather than competition.” Audience members like how intimate it is between them and the performers. Many like the fact that it’s genuine; no microphone and no pre-recorded instrumentals.

Chorale member, Catiana Rosario, has performed at a majority of the coffee houses during her past three years of high school. As a student who has been a part of chorus since the start of middle school, she appreciates the fact that “it gives everyone, not just chorus [members], an opportunity to perform anything they want to.”

Numerous people, chorus member or not, believe the coffee house is a considerable option in allowing others to show their musical talents. Whether it’s singing or playing an instrument, this event gives anyone and everyone the opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve got.

The next acoustic coffee house will take place on January 22, 2016 at 7 PM and coffee house enthusiasts will be looking forward to familiar and brand new performers.
