That's an Interesting Use of the Class Email

The class email groups; they have been used for information, for politics, and for many many reminders. However, tonight something new is being added to that list. Currently ongoing is the first social email endeavor of the class of 2017. Never before has the email group dubbed “class of 2017” hosted a conversation between peers to such a degree where the participants ask “who wants to hang out tonight.”

As the class of 2017 knows very well, toward the end of last year the group emails were used to facilitate a rather heated class officer campaign. It started James Russo releasing his campaign speech and then with Adam Charfi releasing the first of several campaign videos, the platform of google groups was changed into a political medium. In itself, Adam’s videos caused a wealth of debate and, in some cases, anger about the direct campaigning.

Other candidates of the same class were producing their own campaign content in attempt to compete with the ongoing political power struggle. Some students out lashed against the videos and speeches, and some even offered their own candidacies such as Jose Engracio.

Today though, Ali DeMeo offered the first words in the social sphere. Asking a question to the entire class of 2017, Ali revolutionized how the email group worked. The implications of this development could be endless. Soon there may be advertisements for mixtapes, vendors trying to sell their products, or even people trying to give away puppies (which wouldn’t be a bad thing).

No matter which way the Class of 2017 responds to this event, it is something new to their communication which is exciting no matter what.
