The Big Winners from Pajama Day

Today marked the third day of Spirit Week: Pajama Day! To commemorate such an occasion, I spent the whole day taking terribly awkward pictures and interviewing people using my phone’s voice recorder, all for the sake of finding the best sleepwear PVMHS has to offer. I’ve selected a winner, plus a few honorable mentions.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Sam Pang / Sam Lyman

GG: Why are you Pajama Day-ing today? Why did you choose that pajamas?

Pang: Because it looked cool.

GG: What about you, Sam Lyman?

Lyman: I woke up like this.

GG: Those are some great answers from great people. Thank you.

Demi Karavoussianis

Demi insisted on being photographed with Sam Pang.

GG: I’m here with Demi Karavoussianis. Hopefully I’ll spell that correctly. Anyway, can explain your pajama-wear?

Karavoussianis: So, I wore pajamas and then a fuzzy robe, because it’s really cold out, and I like to be warm.

GG: Wow! Thanks for that answer.

Ardian Doroci

GG: I’m here with Ardian Doroci, and he’s wearing something genuinely interesting. So would you care to explain how you, like, came to decide on this outfit?

Doroci: Well, since it’s Pajama Day, I decided to wear a onesie which I found on Amazon Prime---

(At this point, he yells at Richard Moore, who is trying to get his attention.)

---I’M IN AN INTERVIEW RIGHT NOW, RICHARD!

(He laughs and then coughs a little bit.)

So, I went on Amazon Prime and I typed in “onesie” and I found this tie-dye one, which I’m probably gonna reuse for tomorrow. And then in my basement I found this nice robe with cheetah print on it, and that’s how I came to this idea.

GG: Well I gotta say, that’s pretty inventive. You know, sometimes inspiration just strikes, and even if it combines something like cheetah print and tie-dye, you just gotta go with it.

Doroci: Yes, that’s what I think.

Gabriella DaSilva

GG: I’m here with Gabriella DaSilva, and we are talking about the Pajama Day. So how’s it going for you?

DaSilva: Great! I love Pajama Day.

GG: Why did you dress in your specific pajamas?

DaSilva: ‘Cause they’re my favorite pajamas.

GG: Thank you so much.

Alexandra Castro

GG: I am here with…

Castro: Alexandra Castro.

GG: And we are discussing Pajama Day!

Mrs. Byrne (from across the classroom): Stop.

GG: No, it’s for the Tanner Times.

Mrs. Byrne: It doesn’t matter, it’s not Tanner Times time. We have to get in the lab.

GG: It’s always Tanner Times time!

Mrs. Byrne: Shut it off, Gabe.

And last but certainly not least, the winner of Pajama Day!

WINNER: ROB STOCKER!

GG: I am here with Robert Stocker, the almost-band-vice-president!

(Rob looks at me disapprovingly.)

Can you explain your pajama-wear?

Stocker: Gabe, how are you liking high school this year?

GG: I like it quite a bit, but that’s not the purpose of this interview, Rob Stocker.

Stocker: On the contrary, I believe it is the purpose because I’m interviewing you.

GG: Oh really? But last I checked, I’m the one holding the iPhone voice recorder!

Stocker: Let me get my phone out.

(He gets out his phone and looks for the voice recorder app.)

Stocker: I don’t even know where voice recorder is here. Anyways, what were you asking?

GG: Can you explain why you chose a camouflage onesie?

Stocker: It’s not a onesie.

GG: It’s not?

Stocker: No, these are just brand-new pajama pants underneath, and then I threw on my bathrobe to stay warmer, and then I felt like not wearing sneakers so I threw on monkey slippers.

GG: Oh, I didn’t notice the monkey slippers.

One of Rob’s monkey slippers

Stocker: Yeah.

GG: Alright, thanks for your time.

I declared Mr. Stocker the winner for a few reasons. First, the uniformity of his camouflage pajamas immediately separated him from the rest of the candidates. It gave him a clean, polished look that nearly everyone else in the school lacked.

In addition, his outfit contained some powerful visual metaphors. The camouflage was an obvious representation of war, and the monkey slippers were clearly meant to symbolize the barbaric, animalistic nature of wartime. Many would dismiss the pairing of camouflage and monkey slippers as simply being random, but this is not the case. Stocker clearly meant for us to see the hidden meaning in his pajamas.

Rob Stocker is not merely a kid who dressed up for Pajama Day: he is an artistic genius. This genius could not go unrecognized, and that is why I declared him the winner.
