American Made: Supporting National Manufacturing
Have you seen flyers or people wearing pins with this logo? If so, you have noticed the campaigning of “Made by U.S. For Us”. The DECA chapter at Peabody High is conducting this campaign to promote American manufacturing. Their mission is to educate the community about American manufacturing, and to make a change in its current state by encouraging people to buy more American-made products.
The goals of the campaign are to educate Peabody about the current state of American manufacturing and to advertise businesses and brands that make their products in the United States. They also want to connect with companies dedicated to producing their goods in the U.S., and urge the PVMHS community to pledge to buy more American goods in their daily lives.
To educate the PVMHS community about the issues at hand, the Peabody DECA representatives have been campaigning throughout the school by talking one-on-one with as many students as possible. The bulk of the campaign has taken place during all three lunch periods. Pledges are distributed to students who are willing to commit to purchasing more American goods. Students are then given a list of companies and brands, who manufacture their goods in the United States.
In return for their participation, each student receives a pin decorated with the logo of the campaign.
In order to fulfill the goal of connecting and communicating with companies dedicated to producing their goods in the U.S., chapter representatives sent written letters to five successful corporations. The five companies included L.L. Bean, Burt’s Bees, Alex and Ani, Crayola, and Scott’s Liquid Gold. L.L. Bean responded with an official statement of support, Burt’s Bees donated 50 lip balm samples, and Alex and Ani reached out to the campaign on social media.
The “Made by U.S. For Us” campaign will be competing at the district competition at Merrimack College in January.
