SotW Contributor Showcase: Meeghan Bresnahan
This week, I interviewed our most theatrical contributor, Meeghan Bresnahan. She also happens to be the top freshman contributor overall, and has filled Songs of the Week with more musicals than anyone else. Here's what she had to say:
Why do you participate in Songs of the Week to the Extent that you do?
You posted once on the band Facebook page asking for submissions, and I did that one week. And then I did it again and again because I really love music and sharing it.
If you could recommend one artist (or musical cast) to get readers into the music you love, who would it be?
I feel like I should say the Hamilton Original Broadway Cast, because the music in Hamilton includes so many different styles of music that many different people will like. My favorite musical cast is probably The Hunchback of Notre Dame's cast because they're all so talented, but the music in that musical is either like stereotypical Broadway/Disney or choir music, and I'm not sure how many people like that as much as I do.
I've noticed that most of our top contributors seem to be listening to very diverse, less popular music. Do you think this is a coincidence?
Maybe this happens because people want to show really good music that people don't always hear on the radio? I feel like that would explain it.
How well has Songs of the Week worked for you in terms of music discovery?
I haven't really read the articles. Is that bad?
No, that seems to be a common theme among contributors. When you do discover music, what qualities do you look for?
Vocals that aren't shitty, strings; I love string instruments for some reason, metal elements (if it's not Broadway. But there are good rock musicals. Not metal musicals. I think,) meaning to the words if there are words.
Lastly, of the tracks you've submitted, which is your favorite?
Probably the Finale of The Hunchback of Notre Dame [35] at the moment.
