Let's Have a Moment.
Congratulations, Peabody High. You have entered the year of 2017. To freshmen and sophomores, it may not feel like much. To juniors, it may feel “strange”. But to many seniors- it is absolutely unbelievable. After overhearing fellow seniors in the hallways talking about college and saying how they are stressed, I, along with some friends, have created a list of advice that we think not only seniors would benefit from but any high school student.
The familiarity that you’re feeling right now will not last forever. Enjoy it while you can and learn to love it.
Have the most fun you have ever had (within reason, so be careful)
Work hard, but don’t obsess.
Rebuild broken relationships.
GO TO PROM. You say you hate it but we all know that deep inside, you love it.
Study for your AP exam(s). Thank us when you pay less than you would have for college.
All the petty drama that seems to surround you right now will not last 5 months. Like Elsa: let it go. Don’t waste your time.
Take as many pictures and videos as you can. It seems cheesy but they are amazing to look back on
You don’t have to watch Shameless or Grey’s Anatomy by yourself. Hang out with your friends on school nights.
It feels like everything is happening for the last time-make this a positive thing.
Don’t waste your energy by acting negatively towards others.
Say “Hi” to people. You will probably never see them after graduation.
Enjoy it while it lasts, whether you believe it or not, you will miss this all one day.
Go to the game. Go to the party. Go to the play. Go to the concert. Netflix will be there when you get home.
Enjoy those friendships that are strictly in-class-ask-for-homework-kind-of-friendships. Their expiration dates are coming up quickly.
There is no reason to wait on the waitlist.
College? Military? Workforce? You will know where you want to spend the next four years. You will get a feeling-trust me.
Regret nothing. No shame, no gain, right?
Take a High School Musical kind of jump if you are feeling adventurous.
Do random things with random groups of people. Often times these are the best memories.
Get involved!
Did I mention taking pictures?
Don’t forget about your siblings. Even if you stay home for college, one day they won’t be around you 24/7 and you will miss them and they will miss you.
Revel in the nostalgia, but live in the present too.
Long list short- welcome to the “best years of your life so far”. Enjoy every single second.
