The Boy Who Stole Prom

Let me introduce you to little Liam Coleman, son of Mrs. Coleman. Some of you may have seen the toddler running around prom, as he ran (and crawled) across the DJ platform, around the dancefloor, or in and out of Mr. Harris’ arms.

I had a chance to talk with the man, Mr. Harris, himself at prom, and inquire just why he was such a baby magnet. Incidentally, to Liam, Mr. Harris is known as “Uncle Dan.” Of course, I wanted to know if Mr. Harris is an uncle to all babies, or just this particular one, because he seemed to have, as I called it an “innate baby quality.”

To this, Mr. Harris quickly replied how his relationship with Liam is long forming as he has been best friends with Mr. and Mrs. Coleman for quite some time.

I pressed Uncle Dan a bit more on if he had an innate baby quality; he really seemed a natural picking up and playing with little Liam. He did finally concede, saying “Yeah, I think so.”

While talking about Liam, Mr. Harris expressed just how fond of Liam he is, saying “He’s great; my favorite.” But he also commented how he was “surprised he’s not dancing” at the time. Liam is apparently a party favorite.

I was also concerned about just how comfortable Liam was at the prom, considering the hundreds of people and roaring music, to which Mr. Harris replied, “He grew up in a big family, he’s used to it.”

However, knowing the new dynamic between the beloved English teacher and young toddler, I wanted to know if there was any bribery involved in getting Liam to be so affectionate. Mr. Harris earlier said that he does buy Christmas and birthday gifts for Liam, but I pressed even further.

Here is an excerpt from our conversation:

N- “Any bribery?”

H- “No.”

N- “Really?”

H- “No.”

N-“Really?”

H- “No.”

So it’s still up for debate if Mr. Harris has been sneaking Liam $10 bills all along.

I also asked Mr. Harris what his signature dance move is, to which he responded “the rhino.” He then went on to show me a pseudo-rain dance where he placed his extended hand on his head and wiggled his hips back and forth.

I was entranced.
