Stage One Presents: Peter and the Starcatcher

By: Kirsten Crowe ‘18 Just this past evening I had the opportunity to go to see PVMHS’ Stage One production of, “Peter and the Starcatcher.” This play included 16 roles and an ensemble featuring 17 sailors; seaman; seafarers; orphans; pirates; mermaids; mollusks; and narrators. This dynamic group, of some of Peabody High’s best, told the origin story of the boy who wouldn’t grow up, Peter Pan. The story follows a nameless orphan, Alex Serino, and a pair of companions Prentiss and Ted, Mitchell Barnes and Johnny Pappas. This group of boys befriends a girl named Molly, Fiona Lynskey, who is a Starcatcher’s apprentice. Together they face a fanciful pirate, mollusks that refuse to use English, and mermaids - oh so many mermaids.

Although the entire cast was wonderful and made the play feel authentic and lively there were a few standout roles in the cast. Neil Sherman’s portrayal of Mrs. Bumbrake was utter genius and made absolutely everyone in the auditorium laugh at some point during the play. Fiona Lynskey, a freshman, was strong and confident on stage as Molly. And of course Alex Serino’s performance as Peter was wholly captivating and moving. Overall, “Peter and the Starcatcher” did not disappoint and it is definitely a must see and maybe if you get lucky you will even catch some starstuff and fly.
