Book Review on "All The Bright Places"
“The future is uncertain, but that can be a good thing,” says Finch in Jennifer Niven’s All the Bright Places, one of the best books I've read in all 14 years of my life. I liked it mainly because it shows that depression and mental illness can happen in anyone and any family and it showcases the hardship of being depressed. This book was based on things that actually could happen in real life. The book to me was cliche because it was your typical love story, but there is a twist to the story that makes the book unique in its own way. This book is about a depressed boy named Finch and a girl named Violet who is not depressed but is constantly down on the recent death of her sister. Finch has this problem where he can't sleep for weeks straight and he is just awake. “I do my best thinking at night when everyone else is sleeping. No interruptions. No noise. I like the feeling of being awake when no one else is.” They find each other at the top of a bell tower at their school where they were both up there thinking about different things with their lives. After getting paired up as partners for a school project they start to go different places around the city that means something to them and yes as you suspected they slowly fall in love, But there is a twist at the end that changes the whole story. What I loved about the book is the suspense that the book gives. The feeling that you just need to keep reading and find out what is going to happen next. All the Bright Places is a deep book and has references and instances of suicide and death but if you are looking for a good read I completely recommend this.
