At Endicott College, an annual softball tournament is held Memorial Day weekend. It takes place to honor and commemorate the loss of Peabody’s Courtney Corning, who passed in an accident back in 2007. The four teams that participate in the tournament every year are Peabody, Danvers, Beverly, and Bishop Fenwick. In our first game against Bishop Fenwick, freshman (now sophomore) Gina Terrazzano hit two home runs in back-to-back at-bats in the same inning. We beat the Crusaders 10-0 to advance to the championship game. In the championship game where we faced the Danvers Falcons, we ended up winning 8-3 after having only two hits through the first five innings of the game. This past spring was the first time Peabody won the Courtney Corning Tournament in ten years, which happened to fall on Courtney’s 30th birthday. Our win meant so much because our coach was one of Courtney’s teammates and played in the tournament the first year it took place.
