On March 3rd, 2020, the AP US History class took a trip to the Commonwealth Museum in Boston to look at some primary source documents. This would be the first field trip to this museum, and it acted as a tester to see if it's beneficial enough to continue each year. The following are some pictures from the field trip as we look back to a time before the pandemic:

A majority of us felt uncomfortable by the "flat-faced" appearance of this bus. Some would even say it reminds them of Voldemort.

Spirits were high as we left the school and boarded the “Voldemort” bus.

Upon entering the building, we were looking forward to a fun day ahead with primary source documents and other activities.

Here we are playing a game where you figure out if people's rights have been violated.

Allen acted as the game show host.

Alex gives a sign of approval to this arts and crafts station.

Just two friends having a lovely conversation using a listening station.

Typing up this article on a printing press like it's a computer. Really working on our DBQ skills.

Allen going on trial for being a witch. He was suspiciously happy when he found out he passed for being one.

Another view of Allen’s trial in the activity area. Hopefully Allen’s newly discovered witch powers helped him on the AP exam.

That moment when we tried to break the interactive document screen by hiding all of the digital papers on the side where they can't be seen…

This guy on a TV screen was behind bars. We all felt bad for him. Maybe one day we can go back and break him out.

We figured that this was what selfies looked like in the early 20th century.

Making some serious legislative decisions while eating Rice Krispies Treats.

Discussing some of our serious legislative decisions after finishing said Rice Krispies Treats.

We all enjoyed looking at the primary sources even though we knew we definitely shouldn’t be trusted with these important documents.

The 2019-2020 AP US History Class with Mr. Hawes posing in front of a statue that we all thought looked like Stonehenge. You can’t even tell the difference.
After a day well spent analyzing primary source documents *while eating Rice Krispies Treats* and discovering that Allen was a witch, the trip to the Commonwealth Museum was a field trip like no other. Looking back, we were able to refine our knowledge of AP U.S. History while making memories that will last a lifetime.
